Super Pocket Bikes

Introduction to Super Pocket Rocket Bikes

A pocket bike or a pocket rocket is a miniaturized motorcycle. Pocket rocket bikes generally have a four stroke motor to power a chain connected to the rear wheel.

The four stroke motor is similar to that found in lawnmowers but whereas these motors use a horizontal shaft, lawnmowers use a vertical shaft and therefore lawnmower motors cannot be used to power mini bikes. Some models have a two stroke motor instead of the usual four stroke one and some others are powered by electricity.

Pocket bikes were popular in Europe and Japan initially and became popular in the United States only recently. When pocket rockets were introduced in America, they cost as much as $4,000 but now they are available for even $200.

What are Super Pocket Bikes or Super Pocket Rockets?

Super pocket bikes (also known as super pocket rockets) are slightly bigger and heavier than mini pocket bikes. Pocket bikes were built on the concept of being light, fast moving vehicles which could be raced in even narrow pit lanes and dirt tracks. They were usually made from spare parts originally. With the advancement in technology and with pocket bikes becoming a fashion statement nowadays, super pocket bikes are the next level of pocket rocket bikes.

Super Pocket Rockets resemble full sized motor bikes much more as they are larger and more comfortable than pocket bikes. Super pocket rockets also may have full head lights, tail lights, complete suspension system, a horn, hydraulic brakes, cushioned seats and electric starters. They are also faster pocket bikes in straight lines than ordinary pocket bikes because the super pocket rockets have larger displacement engines and four speed transmissions.

They either have a two stroke engine or a four stroke engine (110cc and 125cc pocket bikes) with most super pocket rockets having a four stroke engine.

Racing Super Pocket Bikes - Is it legal?

Pocket bikes are small and fast and were created with the intention to race them either in pit lanes, go-cart tracks or in dirt tracks. These races are called Minimoto or Mini GP races, and it's legal to race super pocket rockets in these places, but since super pocket bikes are classified as 'motor vehicles' in most countries, they need to be in accordance with road safety rules.

However, the way super pocket bikes are right now, they are far from being road safe. As a result, it is illegal to drive them on public roads in most countries across the world including the United States of America, the United Kingdom and also in Ontario, Canada. It's legal however to use big pocket bikes on private land.

Safety Tips While Riding Super Pocket Rockets

As a result of being extremely fast moving vehicles, it's important to take proper safety precautions while racing or driving super pocket rockets. Mini bikes can attain speeds greater than 40 miles per hour and super pocket bikes more than 64MPH. Therefore, it's recommended to use safety equipments at all times. Helmets, knee pads and elbow pads are some of the basic safety equipment that should always be used.

Super pocket bike accessories and safety equipment are also available at most shops and web sites which sell pocket bikes. It is the rider's responsibility to ride pocket bikes safely.
